We are on vacation and spent some time in antique shops this morning. I found 1 electronic typewriter in about 10 shops we visited. Wah waaah. I guess I am used to the selection in Ohio.

Though my husband did see a bunch on USS Alabama. I didn't go. He was wondering if battleships had dedicated typewriter repair people on board.

Actually, I go to Pensacola every year and I have pretty good luck! If you haven't been, try Blue Moon Antiques, 3721 West Navy Blvd. Also try Iron Gargoyle in Gulf Breeze, 4531 Gulf Breeze Parkway.
[maybe I bought them all last time I was there. sorry.]

Welcome to the east coast... Selection in New Jersey is pretty slim too, only a few typewriters from my collection are actually local. Seems like this side of the US threw all their typewriters away or shipped them to where everyone else lives.

We did go to blue moon and they didn't have any.
Yes, you must have bought them all ;)

Highly doubtful. Far more likely that those who used them had basic repair knowledge. It would be far easier to stow a few spare machines and parts on board than extra personnel just to repair the odd machine.

We went to a couple of shops in Foley yesterday. Ug, there was a Royal 10 marked with a eBay listing printed off of a similar selling for $495. I asked if that was the price. She told me yeah, but she'd check if they could come down a bit. Came and found me and said they could do $400. Told her way too high. She said, "that's what they go for on eBay". I said they may be listed for $495... sometimes, but rarely sell that high unless they are maybe professionally refurbished. Told her good luck, maybe someone would buy it, but not me. Crazy.
We did find an underwood 5 standard upstairs (actually I think it's a 150, not quite sure yet) and I got that one. I would have passed it over, but my husband kind of pushed it. It is okay. Needs some work, and looks like a battleship. Lol.
Then the other shops we went to didn't have any.

Well, there you go -- I've never seen ANY at the places in Foley.

If they had repairmen on aircraft carriers, am guessing battleships too. Big floating cities.
Had links from finding out about an old USN type "F" phone. Always curious about things. : )
From Aircraft Carrier Site:
Special Artificer I (SAI) - Repair typewriters and watches. Coat lenses of optical instruments.
From Navy Alphabet Soup Site:
SAI (TR) - Special Artificer, Instrument (Typewriter & Office Equipment)
Anyway, hope you're enjoying your vactation!
best

Very interesting. I will tell my husband about those abbreviations and let him do some further research.
Oh, found this. Haven't read it through yet.
