Hi Everyone,
4th of July came & went with usual fireworks well into the night.
With nothing on TV, went through some PDF files I'd been putting off.
For your enjoyment, or "mark as read" then. ; )
Young repairman:
Doesn't say how old he is, but I want to know what's in his toolbox!
San Antonio Man disassembles Typewriter Blindfolded
Not only a nifty stunt. (I couldn't do it without a blindfold.) But check out the dig they take at the local handymen. "We're professionals not amatuers." Uh-oh... I've been found out.
Finally, no troll intended, but painting a typewriter "Apple Red" or "Candy Land Pink."
Is this common?

The "twitter blue" Lettera 32 made me wince. No so much because of the color, but what it was named after.

I have never seen 'twitter blue' before. 'Seafoam' bothers me too. I've never seen a minty seafoam. Just a murky brownish one!
Great articles. I love the first one about the young repairman. His face is so joyful in that picture.

Yes, I think he missed his calling as Madison Avenue advertising & marketing guy. What's interesting is many of his reviews are anonymous. Guess if I spent that much money on a painted typewriter named "Cristina" or whatever (people name their typewriters?) I'd want to remain anonymous too! ; )

Me too. Texas gulf coast = "seafoam brown" Black paint splotches for tarballs (off shore drilling) can be added for an additional fee.
I'll also answer my own question about painting. Evidently quite common. Almost 600 dollars! : 0 !
I like the cheesy decals & he can't be bothered to detail the ribbon indicator (red, blue & white?) And of course, "Ewww... I don't want it smelling like a used bookstore."
To each his own I guess. No accounting for taste!

Well, you know... If he really did have it professionally fixed up with all the stuff he said in the description, new platen, cleaned, repaired, baked on paint, it probably did cost quite a bit.
I haven't seen the damage on my rheinmetall yet, but the platen was estimated at $66. Each ~1" of feed roller was going to be about $12, and there were 4 appx 1" feed rollers, 2 paper bail rollers, and 2 appx 2.5" rollers, so that'd be about $120ish (I didn't get new feed rollers, just had the guy resurface them). I don't know how much a blasting + powder coating would run, but it's probably not cheap. Then there's the labor in taking it all apart and putting it back together, testing, etc... Not a small job. The bright pink is unfortunate, I'll agree.

Would this count as fun stuff? Persol has a line of glasses out called 'Typewriter'. Author Brett Easton Ellis has done a commercial. Here's an article with a link to the video.
Oh, and I originally found this on a German blog. But I couldn't read it. I'll come back in a minute and post the link. Okay, here is a link that should take you to a google translation. If you read German, you should be easily able to navigate to the original.

Did you see how the pink royal was "buble gum" pink?
I would never paint a machine an un original factory color, UNLESS it was rusted beyond belief.
