Hi guys,
I just purchased a KMG typewriter in really nice shape, except for one little problem. At least I hope it's little... The carriage return lever sits too low on the machine and rubs against the top plate when I try to push the carriage back. If it was only a bit of friction I wouldn't mind, but it's so bad the lever actually gets stuck against the plate. I'm wondering if anyone has encountered this before on older machines and how I might be able to fix it. It doesn't seem like the lever itself is bent in any way, just kind of angled downward.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated! Let me know if anyone needs pictures for a more accurate depiction. Thanks!

Would you mind posting a photo? I have a kmg too, but mine is actually missin the lever.. lol.

I wouldn't mind at all, actually, except I can't seem to figure out how to get one of the photos I took to show up in the forum, haha. Nothing happens when I try to copy and paste or when I try using "image" button.

Rufio, I'll post a link to Uwe's 'how to post a photo' thread.
I load all my photos at imgur and then copy the "BB Code" link to paste here at the forum. Other photo hosts work in a similar way. It's a little clunky, but I guess it keeps the board free (I think adding board photo uploads requires a paid subscription for the message site, which can be expensive).
Alternatively, you can post the photo somewhere else and then just add a link to it here.

The carriage return lever is supposed to be parallel to the table and therefore the top of the top plate. I think your lever is just a little bit bent, but a picture would be very helpful in figuring out what's wrong.

I've seen a number of ribbon covers scratched up, not becaus there was anything wrong with the line space lever, but because the ribbon cover itself wasn't seated properly. It's something else to verify.

Hi everybody,
Thanks for all the tips, and thank you for the directions on posting pictures. Sorry I was MIA--just tinkering with the machine! The more I looked at the lever the more I figured it was just bent, probably from bad storage over time. So, with a little elbow grease and the right amount of counter pressure on the carriage, I bent it upwards and now it clears the top plate. Thanks again!
