That's an interesting one.  French of course, but I wonder what specialty had such a 'non-standard' layout.

By then they'd have refined things down to maybe two different schools of typing?

The only thing I can think of at the moment, is that this was a custom machine designed to keep other people away from this lovely red typewriter. The key layout creates confusion, and the would-be secret typist goes away.

It's a modified Kyrgyzstan layout, probably used by someone in the French embassy there... 


The pronoun has always been capitalized in the English language for more than 700 years.
