Hello, I'm new to using typewriters. I do a lot of writing, but want to do more offline, I have written a large variety of things, but anyways I have a Brother GX-6750 I got new, and also I'm having an Olympia SM 9 refurbished and excited to use it. I'm certainly interested in finding another portable or two.

Welcome! SM 9s are some of the best there is.

Hello everyone.
I'm really new to typewriters, but when I saw one at a sale recently I had to have it. I have alot to learn but I hope to get my machine in top typing shape. When I can post links I'll post information about a alignment issue I have in the maintenance board.

Welcome aboard!  Still fairly new here myself.  I think the catchpa thing is 3 for a link & ten for photos?

I'll shamelessly chat you up to get to those magic numbers.  ; )

I've found TT to be a nice group here.  Am sure you will too.

best

Re: New Member Thread

Hello all! I am very new to the world of typewriters- I just got my very first two weeks ago, in fact. It's a Remington Rand Deluxe 5, and I bought it on impulse at an antique store. (Just before flying home to NC from CT- the TSA people were very confused when it came through the xray!) I also have an Underwood 5 that's been sitting around my mother's house for a while- she picked it up at a tag sale as a decorative piece. I'd only been planning on cleaning it up to look pretty, but it looks like it might just work again if I give it a good cleaning (and figure out why the carriage doesn't advance when typing.) The real "fun" will be figuring if I can get the nasty coat of brown paint off of it!

Re: New Member Thread

Hello All,

New to the forum, obviously, and looking forward to learning more about my machines with you help! I've worked with typewriters as part of my art-writing practice for many years and am interested in how they produce a particular arphoristic-leaning sort of writing (in the same way as any other apparatus leaves its traces in the production of something), so very interested in the legacy of the machines in literature and philosphy, Nietzche's writing ball etc. and also feminist conversations about typewriters and women's labour. Yadda yadda. I mostly just want to get my Prideline up and running again!

Ok, good to meet you all!

Re: New Member Thread

Hello Claire! Welcome to the board.  Jump right in with repair questions on the maintenance and repair sub forum.  I've gotten tons of help there.
