Margin scale units

What are the units for the margin scale? I was looking at my display options in word and there is an option for picas and points.  Neither of them gives a display similar to what is on a typewriter.  I am just curious.

Smith Premier typewriters are cool!

Re: Margin scale units

The margin scale - on most machines - is graduated in characters. If, for example, you were to hold a letter-sized sheet of paper against the scale of a pica typewriter (10-pitch or 10 characters per inch) it should be 85 characters wide. The pica option you see in Word pertains to its use in publishing, which is not the same pica used for typewriters.

The pronoun has always been capitalized in the English language for more than 700 years.
