I was given an Olivetti Lettera 22 today that works flawlessly.. other than the fact that the return lever is snapped off. I've not encountered this situation before, so I'm wondering if this is going to be a teardown or if it can be spot-welded back into place. Using a tiny screwdriver, I can move the mechanism up enough to get about 3-4 millimeters of the post the handle was attached.
Hoping for the best, prepared for the worst.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I am sorry to have to tell you that this is a really nasty repair ! One that some professionals baulk at doing. I'm assuming that the aluminium casting that the lever is screwed to is broken ? Your best bet would be to obtain another Lettera 22 and swop the casting and post over, but it is a tricky job. If the casting is simply loose on the post, it can be removed and put into a lathe. Then drill down the centre, and tap to take a small screw. Still a nasty job to remove and refit...........!

Yikes. I figured as such. Can't blame a guy for hoping. Damn. The machine works great, so I'll call it my Humility typer. I'll just be taking my time to remember I have to advance to the next line manually. What a bummer. I'll investigate further, but I suppose there's no reason to blow the bank on a machine that otherwise works just fine. Sounds like I'd be able to just buy another machine at eBay pricing for the price of this repair. The search continues... Thanks for the reply! Glad to know where it stands so I can know I'm not being a slack by just working around that issue altogether.
