Strangest place to store your typewriter

I was thinking tonight that I am storing my Smith-Corona Silent in a very strange place, albeit temporarily until the handle on its case is replaced.

It is currently...

in

the

microwave.

What is the strangest place you have stored a typewriter?

...I was going to say floor, but nobody can beat the microwave...

And typewriters occupying floor space doesn't seem to uncommon here anyways.

A high schooler with a lot of typewriters. That's pretty much about it.

Mine are all in normal places, I'm afraid; & I don't have a microwave! Boring here...

You have to be careful with that one though, colrehegan - what if someone turned it on!?

Not a problem.  My cats can't operate the microwave.  In fact, it is only there because of the cat who wants to play with it and pull the ribbon out of it.

Re: Strangest place to store your typewriter

I've got the SG3 in the (cool, dry) basement, in a storage tub with ice skates....  At least it's covered.  (I'd love a proper cover for it.)

Re: Strangest place to store your typewriter

Microwave? I have to ask: WHY? It must be a very big microwave because I'm pretty sure that a Silent wouldn't come close to fitting in mine. Can't say that I've stored mine anywhere remotely strange, but some are in large piles - up to four or five machines deep. It's a temporary situation until I finish reorganizing and can fit my entire collection in one place.

Re: Strangest place to store your typewriter

Uwe,
It is a temporary situation until the case's handle is replaced.  The case is currently at a shoe & luggage repair shop.  One of my cats likes to pull at the ribbon in typewriters.  It is why my Royal FP lives under an empty plastic bin.  I came home from work one day to find a black ribbon on the floor.  It was the original ribbon and it had holes in it from the cat's teeth.  I took a picture last night and will post it hopefully this weekend.

Re: Strangest place to store your typewriter

Maybe there's something about the smell of a ribbon that attracts your cat. Valiant is a cat person and I don't recall him ever mentioning his cat getting into the ribbons of his machine, so maybe yours has a more eclectic palate? Ribbons are usually the first thing to grow that musty smell, so maybe that has something to do with it.

Got the case back and a new handle is on it.  So, the typewriter can go back into its case!
