This film happened to be on television tonight and of course I had to watch just for this one scene. Anyone recognize it?

"Wait a minute. What is that doing here?"

>>"Oh, my gosh! This is amazing. Listen. The Olympia Report Deluxe Electric - Report - as in gunshot."

"That sound is familiar."

>>"Listen to this."

"What, that whirring?

>>"The gentle, soothing lullaby of a piece of machinery so perfect..."

"I know where I've heard that before."

>>"I needed a backup."

"Don't you have another one at your apartment?"

>>"I might!"

Beats me!

-but shouldn't that be 'Reporter', not Report?

Looked at those machines often on EBay - they look interesting - anyone know how well they work?

Sincerely,
beak.

I stumbled across this thread while looking for something else and realized that the film has yet to be guessed, so I'm adding a clue:

It is amusing, considering who the lead actor was in that movie.

I don't get the hint, but that looks like Greg Kinnear. Is it the movie about the guy (played by him) who invented intermittent automobile windshield wipers? Sorry but I don't remember the name.

Is it 'You Got Mail'?

... that can't be Tom Hanks, can it? - a typewriter collector, I understand.

It's Greg Kinnear in the photo, but Tom Hanks played the lead.
