My husband has written a song, inspired by the global ongoing Covid crisis.
He wrote and sang the lyrics, played the instruments, did all the recording, mixing and montage, all by himself. And all in our living room
Took him more than six months, but here it is!
For the video clip he asked friends, coworkers, family members to dance or work out on the rhythm of the music.
Initially he wanted to make a short stop-motion video as an intro to the song, but in the end he decided that a typewriter is pretty much stop-motion in itself and that is how my Smith-Corona Clipper came to be in the clip!

Another question, I may have accidentally locked or dislodged something whilst cleaning (I put it on its side). Because the carriage doesn't move when I type. It did when I picked it up from the shop, I tried the red tab buttons and they worked very well.
The back of the machine looks rather daunting and am not sure where to start looking...

Today I picked up a Remington typewriter at the thrift shop.
It was in a glass display and you could put a bid on it, I bid 54 euros. Yesterday they called me that it was mine if I wanted it. And I did!
I only saw it behind glass and couldn't inspect it up close. It looked very dirty, and I wasn't sure if it was complete and working.
Comparing it with photos online, I'm guessing it's a model 10 although this isn't specified on the machine itself.
Here are some pictures, pre-cleaning (I hope this works because Flickr updated some things since the last time I was on there and now I can't find how to copy and share)

I wiped the dust off a bit and cleaned the keys. One foot is missing (front right) but otherwise it seems complete and in working order. It's moving quite smoothly for a machine that seems to have spent at least half a century in a dusty attic or barn.
I threw the ribbon away as it was thrashed and mouldy.
I think the whole top including the carriage can be removed (there are 6 big screws on top) but am scared to take the thing apart.
Any tips on how to tackle this?

There are elastic bands attached and I'm not sure why this is. They don't seem to have been added just for transport...
It was greasy, sticky and full of dust - still is in some places because I couldn't get it all out yet. Got it fairly cheap because of this (cost a bit more to have it sent over here from the US, hehe). The ribbon is dry, but otherwise decent looking, the platen is rock hard.
Any tips for any improvement are

Portable Typewriters » Children's typewriter; Byron Jardine Petite 600/Starlight? » 24-5-2018 13:05:06

Hi all,
does anyone here own a kids' size typewriter? What kind? And do you actually use it, or is it on display only?
I came across two children's typewriters, a Byron Jardine Petite 600 and a Petite Starlight. Both are from 1976. And on sale (15 euros each)
I thought it would be fun to get one, if only for our kids to play and practice with, but in that case they should be quite sturdy or they won't last long in this household...
(also I told my husband it would be easier to take with us on holiday than my regular portable... He then remarked that pen and paper take even less space. Spoilsport )

Thanks so much for your information!
I'll give it a try, maybe this weekend. I've actually told the persoon who sold me the typewriter about this, she was unaware about the fact that this Triumph is actually a Japanese machine.
I've been trying to find a manual for this typewriter online, but haven't found one yet. What make and model should I look for? English isn't my first language, so it would be easier for me if I had pictures with arrows telling me which part is which, hehe

Took a few pictures of the typewriter. I'm not sure what to look for so I hope they're useful.
How can I manually change the direction? It's now moving from right to left.

I will put up some pictures later today!

(Fleetwing, thank you, I'm so proud! Used to have speedskating ambitions myself, a lifetime ago... I'm going to watch the 10k this afternoon!)
