Hi folks,

I just picked up a delightful 1958 SM3, but unlike another late-50s SM3 I've used, this one's ribbon reversal doesn't catch the grommet, it just passes right through. Am I missing something, here? Have any of you encountered this, and is there a fix... perhaps I should tie a big knot in the ribbon...  [img][/img][img][/img]

Sorry to hear your experience hasn't been so great, Roginald. After some negotiating, I picked up my Ambassador this week, and it's delightful, and gigantic! The carriage is very smooth, and with some thick padding underneath it, the machine isn't too noisy. It's a very solid typer and I'm happy to have it! I've set the touch at about the middle, and I like it there fine. On the lightest setting, it's a bit spongy for me, and on the hardest setting, very snappy, almost like my SM9.

Thanks for the tips! I kept the lock on and zipped it up in its (original) case, and tried to avoid the potholes. The machine made it through fine. Any longer drives and I think I'll full out wrap it up as suggested, as if I were shipping it. Heat wasn't an issue as thankfully I have AC, but good point about leaving it in a hot car. Wouldn't want to do that either. Cheers!

Hi all,
Any tips for long car trips with portable machines? I'm in Quebec at the moment where riding on any road (hwy or street) is like riding on the moon. I'm taking my Lettera 22 for a long car trip and wondering: if it is in the case, should I lock the carriage, or am I better off tying an elastic on the carriage release so that it is free to wobble inside the case when I hit bumps?

Thanks!
Bob

Hi all,

I'm looking at purchasing a Hermes Ambassador; I've found a few mentions of the machine on this site and YouTube, and various blogs, and I'm looking for more info! Is it fairly rare in North America? The machine I tried is a true delight and smooth typing; it doesn't have the sort of "clunk-clunk" after hitting each key the 3000 has. I notice that I don't see the type so well as I write on it, but the machine moves so quickly that for me, this isn't an issue so much. I like the little card/notebook holder on the front, and the customizable paper injector is awesome. Anyway, any experiences with this machine first hand are welcome. And I know, it is freakin huge.

Thanks!
Bob

Hi Uwe,
Thanks so much for your reply and offer. I'm looking on their site and they don't appear to have the rubber rejuvenator in stock. I may just take you up on your offer, but will look around a bit more first.
Thanks again, Bob

That's great; thanks for letting me know! As for picking up some Blow Off, any leads on where to pick some up north of the border?
