Standard Typewriters » question about the SG3 typewriter » 12-12-2024 10:42:38 |
Thanks SKY.
Does that mean that two SG3 typewriters, with the same number, for example 23, could exchange their carriages? and everything would work fine...

What does that number at the beginning mean? 21,23,254, 256...
Electric Typewriters » What model of typewriter is this Smith Corona? electra 120? » 02-11-2024 16:58:59 |
Hello pete.
The missing dial is actually a light. That's why it seemed to me that the machine was a poweiter. But it lacks other features. It does not have the inscription "Cordless". The carriage is different. It does not have interchangeable keys. and it doesn't have the powerSpace either. Maybe it is a kind of hybrid for export and they made it with what was left over from other models, they only added the letter Ñ. I'm looking for it on different sales pages to see if I can find another example of this model.

The seller is not that far from my house, maybe I can get this machine. It seems that the little sign where the name of the model appeared came off. It looks like the smith corona poweriter
Electric Typewriters » What do you think about the SGE 35 typewriter? » 13-10-2024 22:09:23 |
Hi Pete!
In the end I bought the SGE 30.
I had a lot of work and I had little free time at home. So as soon as the typewriter arrived, I cleaned it a little, saw that it had some work to do before getting it in perfect condition, so I put it away and have barely had time to use it.
The machine was in pretty good condition, except for a dent on the left side. Apparently it was kept in its case for many years, and at some point it fell, the impact was largely absorbed by the case.
The case is made of wood so with glue and a press I solved it.
After cleaning the machine it started working, but a couple of the keys didn't respond so I had to keep cleaning and moving everything until they responded.
The only thing that doesn't work is Backspace.
Otherwise it is in good condition. The electric cable is very long. The letter is 11 CPI.
(#84 Congres Elite 11CPI, I think)
What impressed me most about the machine were the materials with which it is built, the belts, for example, are the original ones and are in perfect condition.
Today I took photos, I have to upload them to typewriterdatabase.
Greetings from Argentina!

What do you think about the SGE 35 typewriter? It doesn't have a ribbon selector, right?
Portable Typewriters » Royal O Model vs Royal Arrow » 10-10-2023 19:28:05 |
Is there a difference in size between the Royal O Model and the Royal Arrow? I have an Arrow and the model O seems to be smaller, but maybe it's my idea.

I never had a selectric, I didn't dare buy one for fear of not being able to get it working. I saw it as a very complex typewriter.
But I found this selectric 72. These are the seller's photos, the machine will arrive to me in a few days. It appears to be in very good condition and the YouTube channel "Phoenix Typewriter" has a lot of information on Selectric typewriter repair. So I encouraged myself with this machine, I hope I have luck.
Electric Typewriters » how much an IBM Selectric cost in 1961? » 03-9-2023 19:00:17 |
thanks Pete E.!
I asked the question because I'm watching the series "Mad men", and in one episode, an employee steals a Selectric 1. I thought: is it realistic? Would they be so expensive that a person with a good job couldn't buy them? On the other hand, many other machines appear in the series, even in disuse, the character could have stolen another.

Does anyone know how much an IBM Selectric cost in 1961, when it appeared on the market? Compared to a standard, would the price difference have been much?
