Well, I got one reply today.
Ew. That hurt. For the problems I have described to the person, she wants to charge me approximately (between) 150 and 350 euros for her best guess.
So, ca. 250-500 US dollars.

You might also be interested in contacting the German typwriters reparators that you found for me on another topic : I got the feeling that they were also possibly selling typewriters... and you might difficultly found more specilised
By the way, I had a look to the canadian dollar price with the Euro, and I got why you spoke about 200 dollars :-).
In any cases, I think that this Erika was way to expansive.
I don't know how it is in ebay.ca and .us, but the german ebay is (really) plenty of (old) typewriters (anf that make a big difference with the french ebay, were there is a way less). And the more there is... ;-)

So, you need another correctable ribbon for the nylon...
Stupid question, but I noticed, still in the different sizes, that some typewriters uses (with the European modell number) size 153 (so, C or N depending on their nature), and another that I am looking at size 143.
Is there any chance of compatibility and inter-operability between the two models ?

Hey !
I don't know if your search is still actual, but I have had a look on ebay Germany, and for "Fraktur Schreibmaschine" there is no item - but if you speak German, I guess you would have already searched.
However, I found something under that page
An Erika from Naumann, with the mention in the description that "Briefe schreiben mit altdeutscher Schrift" , basically "write letters with the old german alphabet".
I do not know if all the typewriters of this very modell are writing in Fraktur. Nothing let it see on the keyboard anyway (which is modern alphabet), but in case, you can also search the words "altdeutscher Schrift"...
Still, actually that's not a so good idea to write casual letters in that font : nobody under 70 (at least) will be able to read it fluently (a part some historians)

Just to let you know : I contacted two shops and described the "problems" I was able to detect to have an idea if 1. it's possible to do it, and 2. how much it might (really) approximately cost.
I am still waiting for the replies :-)

Thanks to all for your replies and advices !
So, apparently, the use of a typewriter also includes some sewing .
At the end, typewriters are multitasks : they multitask yourself...

Or, get fancy, like I did, and back it with leather. It keeps your portables from wandering around the desktop, too.
I have to say that I smiled when I got the mental picture of the wandering typewriter. But you have definitely right, and I would have forgotten that felt is sooo slippy on tables.

Concernig the Nylon ribbon, since it seems to be the most "long-life" one for the next generations , what are the correction ribbon going with ? I have seen somewhere that the classical "lift-off" ribbons are not relevant for the nylon... any idea ?

Thanks for you reply.
I was actually thinking about it, also to quiet electrical typewriters : I don't know what is cork behavior in regard to electricity, but I guess it could only be better in regard to felt...
And in any cases, maybe less prone to moisture in the long (or mid) run ?
Maintenance & Repairs » Graphite lubricant? » 05-3-2014 10:07:33 |
People told me to use only 100 % vaseline oil for typewriters. I searched for it quite hard, and found an expansive bottle at a do-it yourself store, leaving aside the way cheaper "mechanical oil" that are everywhere.
The thing is the "vaseline oil" was not a liquid oil, but a solid lubricant (no pun intended).
At the end, I finished to go to buy the 1 euro mechanical oil.
Do you have a link to the video ? That might be a good start :-)
