Type Talk » Your Typewriter Story » 05-11-2016 01:41:46

I may.. Or may not have explained somewhere on this site my story ?

Anyway; mine begins circa 1997 with an Underwood 378 my aunt lent me (until 2013) to write my stories on, because I had tiny, barely-legible handwriting - even as a child! Because of this, my nickname with a lot of people is "Hammerhands". I bought an Empire Aristocrat in high school. Was given & gave away SEVERAL electrics because of lack of cassettes-or-ribbons available (they really are the heartbreakers of the typewriter world). I bought a Typestar 1-II as an adult , but turfed if because it began breaking apart all over the place - ebay and I weren't talking to send him to a better place. My most recent one is a Brother Deluxe from a few christmases ago - no case, no way to get one.

Names of typewriters:

Brother Deluxe: Sister Moonshine
Underwood 378 (#2, ebay): Baby Blue
Empire Aristocrat: Eemar

I have 3 today, but I've owned probably about 10 in my lifetime. Because I move so much (and am a hoarder), I get pressured in to giving away the typewriters I can't use/fix. I'm not sure that makes me a beginner or a junior, because I typically only keep portable/manuals and get rid of my electrics.

I was making my own stationery out of stamps at one point; I just found that, so maybe next time I sign in, I will have taken a couple of pictures. I also did scans of things I watercolor painted.

I had a Canon Typestar-II a year or two ago, but it fell apart. It had the most charming font, but the ink was like $60/ea per cassette.

Strangely enough, this issue fixed itself this morning. I got up to go the bathroom, and misjudged where the typewriter was, under my housecoat. I tripped (you could say I had a "trippy experience with Sister Moonshine" this morning -- Sister Moonshine is the nickname I gave it...) on the keyboard, fell over, hitting my garbage can and my stack of CDs on my nightstand. When I paused to check the keys, the caps lock engaged.

I sometimes see Enigma Machines floating around Ebay. I don't know, but I imagine some people would see it as Nazi memorabilia. I have German ancestry, my family came here after being disillusioned with the Nazi regime. I don't collect Nazi related stuff, but I find I'm curious about what role my family had in things.

I think a clip of it would make a neat cellphone ringtone.

I figure it must be some kind of switch or spring. I've never had a Brother, or this issue before.

All of my camera are film right now. My cellphone has a foggy lens, and I just gave back a Canon Rebel to my ex.
