I write with fountain pens and have been quite lucky with social media giveaways. My rule is to penable someone with one of my earlier pens every time I win a new one. Every month on the 15th, penchalet.com gives away a whole list of prizes and I’ve won several time. No purchase is necessary. Last month I won the top prize- a Waldmann Edelfeder 2 in 1. It’s a retractable ballpoint (blue ink) on one end and a cartridge fountain pen on the other! I’m using nearly everyday in my Hobonichi journal. Yes, I am quite enamored of fountain pens and the fountain pen community in general. I like broad nibs and also stacked nibs made by creative individuals like Jose Munera in Dublin Ireland (@nib.lab on Instagram) we’ve bartered some.

I like having multiple typeface options and like some others on this thread, a spare machine can save time hunting for parts. This could be why I now own THREE Smith Corona Coronet Super 12 Coronamatic baby blues. Two have the SC No. 75 Artistic Script and one has 10 CPI. Ok, maybe it’s also because they are still very inexpensive! One of the script machine, my first, arrived with belt slap noise. This led to general parts insecurity anxiety. Not that I’d use a used belt to repair it…I just feel good having them all and that’s enough justification for me.

Thank you so much! I’ll be working on my posting skills today. There’s so much I want to learn and share. Those could be the same size. The feet on this Hermes 10 maybe look wider because they are smooshed and crumbling.

I copied the Imgur link with advice from mr. FountainPensPlus. Hope it works now!

Sk8rcruz,
If you find you need a pair of new o-ring belts for your Hermes 10 and cannot find any local, drop me a Message and I would be happy to send you a pair or two for free.
I bought a pack of 25 from McMaster-Carr on-line and have many left over.
Glad you went for the Hermes 10 in Eugene.  It looked to be a nice one.

I’ll gladly take you up on the offer. I logged in today and noticed all these welcoming messages. I feel unintentionally rude for having not seen this sooner and replied individually to all 1.8k messages. I feel quite welcomed!

I did have to pay a "dear" price of a bit over $ 200 USD since I was up against another bidder.

But two other machines for sale here in the USA out of Washington State have asking prices of $ 685 and $ 650, respectively.  First one is fully serviced with a new platen in a retail shop.  Second one is claimed to be fully refurbished and cleaned but interior photos show otherwise with lost of correcto-tape and eraser dust and sold from a home business.

Since I got some bargain prices for the last 2-3 machines in-coming, I do not mind spending a bit more on this Hermes 10.

I am hoping it types was well as my Olympia SGE-35 and my Facit 1840.  Similar size, weight, and foot print amongst these 3 machines.

I suspect the case with my in-coming machine is not factory-issue...but seems like it did its job keeping good care of the machine.  I will probably go with a nice cotton dust cover on the machine when in my home.

I was fortunate to have picked up a Hermes 10 on eBay, yet the seller was local!  Yay no shipping! It’s in working condition but the rubber feet are crumbling. This machine is “case-less” and has different feet than some others. If I cannot locate replacements I’ll improvise. Anyone have a source? Thanks for the belt information about the belts.

I borrowed an Olympia manual typewriter from user fountainpenplus recently and now I’m here with you all! I have a blue Smith Corona Coronet Super 12 Coronamatic that I bought on eBay. To my surprise it has Italic Artistic Script (no. 75). It’s working fine except for some belt-slap noise. Determined to add a desk machine I began searching for a Hermes 10 Electric. Today was my day! I won an eBay auction and the seller is right here in Eugene. Sometimes things are just meant to be! No shipping damage worries. I look forward to posting photos of my typewriters and their respective typeface samples. I plan to add a manual portable at some point, too.
