Any advice appreciated:
My Gossen Tippa platen advances fine with lower case letters, and does not budge when upper case is used.
Very weird
The escapement works fine and I can't see anything hanging or stuck
But something is clearly not being engaged when capitals letters are being used
Ideas?
Thanks in advance!

The only thing I can think is that the spacing adjustment that actuates the spacing is thrown out of whack everytime the carriage is shifted upward. Try looking underneath the typewriter before you shift and see the levers that move the escapement wheel dogs. Look at the same levers when you shift and see what they do then. You may have to make a compensation adjustment so that the escapement will be brought into play both with the caps and lower case. Let me know how you come out.

Thanks for your response...Yes that's the issue. Saw it last night at midnight....!
Much of the 'action' in this area is within a metal encasing, and the screws of this casing are all 'sealed' with red wax ro prevent tampering.
However I did succeed in finding the little 'finger' that sets the whole escapement thing off.
It is in fact just a hair too short to activate when the whole carriage is raised.
But I cannot for the life of me find any way shape or form to increase its motion.
Under a magnifying glass, I see that the wheel the finger touches has a very shiny, sharp edge - I suspect a tiny piece of it broke off, and that's why the 'activation finger' can't reach it anymore for capitals.
I can only imagine a total breakdown and extension of this finger, or lowering the whole carriage assembly just 2 mm and re-aligning. But the typewriter's profile is so low, this also is tricky.
Afraid this was a really bad purchase, despite it's good looks.....
If you have any ideas
