I agree with Amelia. The typewriters after the 60s really don't do anything for me. They all look like cheap, plastic electromechanical/electronic monsters. Give me a mechanical machine any day.

It's quite possible she literally meant inmates, as in prison inmates. After all, it would be difficult to hide/conceal contraband or weapons within a clear typewriter case...

Sorry guys, here in the U.S. they are referred to as inmates or prisoners. Our prisons are sometimes referred to as "correctional facilities."

Don't know what happened, I'm sure I posted this yesterday but something must have gone wrong... anyway, here's the charmingly ugly Olivetti Dora designed by legend Ettore Sottsass, who also designed the Valentine. This is just a picture pulled from the internet but I managed to get one of these on Deptford Market for about £5...
