Re: SG Owners Club

The SKM was basically a long carriage SM9 in a larger casing to make it look more like an office machine.  I think that Olympia were probably trying to go for the same market as the Adler Special - not that it was a particularly large market.  The Adler Special had a long production run but few sales compared with their standard office typewriters.

Re: SG Owners Club

On Reddit, I found a post with two more of the "mystery" Olympia standards, which I think may just be SG3 variants:

Re: SG Owners Club

Thanks...and these two have "proper" Olympia basges, too.

Only one Olympia SMK displayed on the TWDB.  Here are a couple of the photos :

Re: SG Owners Club

Well I was able to snag another plastic paper support on eBay this past week.  $ 40 including shipping.

Will give it a try on my machine to see if it will allow a forward-facing mount.  Will report back when I get the part in the Post.

Re: SG Owners Club

This eBay seller from Ukraine does not know what he has sitting on top of the platen of his for-sale Consul machine (which is very pricey...) :

Re: SG Owners Club

I have six of these! Two with elite, one with pica, one with 17 cpi manuscript, and one with elite double gothic.  All except the pica have a paper injector and the pica one has a huge plastic paper table.

Smith Premier typewriters are cool!

Re: SG Owners Club

Impressive!

I only seem to come across SG1s with mundane office typefaces: six either have AR7 or #87 elite, and three with #12 pica. Only one of my SG3s breaks that pattern, a 1978 model that came from a radio station that is equipped with the #28 Bulletin typeface.

The pronoun has always been capitalized in the English language for more than 700 years.

Three with elite.  The rest is correct.

Re: SG Owners Club

Here's my 1968 SG3 L, right before sending the platen and rollers off for restoration:

Also, for anyone with a 3d printer out there, I've made a printable version of the paper holder. The design can be downloaded for free here on thingiverse:

https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6451264

It's the correct size and shape, but the slider is on the back instead of the front to make it easier to print. I also made two versions, one with plastic dowels built in, and one with pockets so you can add metal dowels. I've printed the plastic dowel version and it seems to hold up if you're careful with installation.
