Speaking of smelly, I picked up my 3rd Royal QDL today because its my favorite typewriter and it was only 10 bucks and I keep hoping to find one that works perfectly. It was at a garage sale advertised online and I had the owner hold it for me until I could get off work. She held it all day for me otherwise I probably wouldn't have taken it. It smells like at least one of my other typewriters smelled when I picked it up, but its not musty or moldy, not formaldehyde-e, it smells like poop. And the type bars don't look great but who knows it may clean up and work. I will have to air it out for a week before I do anything with it. I wanted to leave it outside but its too humid.

My third machine of this year is this workhorse, a Silver-Reed 500. Works pretty well though i need to get a new ribbon for it.
