I flatter myself that I'm pretty literate and I was comfortable with all the definitions and usages (transcribing, transposing, and transponder) that have ocurred in this thread. Only want to add here that my first reaction was that  "transponding" came up because it is a similar word that might have ocurred to some readers who have only been lurking here and skywatcher wanted to head off that possibility and clear it up in advance.
