Thank you skywatcher!

It came with the original Sears 5 Year Guarantee, with a handwritten date of sale of No 28 1964, so this could be a 1961 model.  My model is not electric.

Thanks for sharing skywatcher!

I have a Sears President 12 (model number 871.2500) that I can't seem to find the year of manufacture.  The serial number is S6LP106323.  Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks in advanced,
-Kyle

Thank you SoucekFan!!  That fixed it!  Unfortunately, rubbing alcohol and gun oil were not enough to keep it from sticking.  It is much better now, so maybe it will loosen over time.  Hopefully I'll remember not to push the line space release button on the knob for the time being!

thanks again,
-Kyle

I am having the same problem with my 1940 Royal KMM: the ratchet turns when you move the lever and the metal collar with the measurements on it spins, it just doesn't rotate the platen.  I believe that my free head is stuck in the on position.  It doesn't seam like pushing the button on the cylinder knob is moving anything.  I removed the cylinder knob with the rod and spring and everything seems okay there.

I thought about removing the knob and rod and spraying PB Blaster towards the tongue washer on the platten.  The machine was quite dirty when I got it from a friend.  Does this sound like a good idea?  Any other suggestions?

Thanks for the help!!

Not that I'm surprised, but once again you are correct.  When I removed the spools I could see that the gears function properly, however the spools could not engage the gears to turn.

As a quick fix, I super glued a cut nail to the bottom on the spool to engage in the gear.  Everything works perfect now.

I will order the proper spools when I order the feet.

thanks again!

It cleaned up pretty good.  I'm definitely going to find some feet for it.

I bent the "rods" for two of the keys to get the slug to lay flat and that seemed to work.

I'm not sure if the ribbon advance is working, but everything else is.

There's not telling how much time your acetone recommendation saved me!  Thank you!  I plan to clean on it some more tomorrow.

thanks,

Thank you!

I believe I'll try to remove the glass paint.

1924 model?

Obviously it needs a good cleaning and oiling.

It appears to have been spray painted, but just on the sides over the windows?

Serial number appears to be X-831225.

thanks!
