As to a user manual the nearest I can find is Smith Corona standards (ca.1950) on the Typewriter Manuals page of Richard Polt's site.

That's impressive!  A good selection of colours too.

The only stapler I've got is an orange Rexel Matador 2, bought late seventies/early eighties when new.  So more modern than my Olivetti typewriters.  I now see them advertised as vintage!  It's made in England which certainly dates it, I don't think much is made in the UK these days!

I should add that the last image in my previous post shows the code posted into a PM and not a forum post, however, PMs don't seem to have the ability to show images and instead will just display the raw BBcode.

I use Flickr to post photos on the forum and this is what works for me.

In Flickr I select the photo I want to use, either from the Album or the photostream, by clicking on it. The sekected photo opens in a dark band on a new screen.  Towards the bottom right of the dark band there should be an arrow (I've highlighted it with a red circle)

I click on the arrow which produces a pop up. I make sure that the BBcode tab (red circle) is selected on the pop up. The drop down menu at the bottom can be opened by clicking on the arrow which allows the desired size to be selected (I think the forum rules say no more than 800pixel, I tend to use 640 for the longest dimension)

I then copy the code shown in the top box (only part of it is shown in the box) and paste it into my post

Provided I have not used the 'Quick post' option and instead have used the 'Post reply' option for my post, I can then click 'preview' to check that the picture displays properly before clicking 'submit'.

Many thanks for that, duna, I shall go and have a look at that Youtube channel, those sort of things interest me! South/Central America makes sense. I guess in that era there might still have been quite a bit of trade with the UK which justified having the £ as well as the $.

Yes, that combined £ and $ type bar is impressive, I wouldn't want to solder a whole slug onto a type bar never mind two halves; I imagine when one half is aligned the other half moves out of alignment.  The King of Typewriters must have been very patient.

Hi Pete

That Hermes adding machine looks very nice, thanks for posting.  I'm now worried (and my wife even more so) that I will start getting into adding machines too.  This could be a slippery slope…

Thanks for that.  I can imagine it must be quite a challenge getting both halves aligned, I wouldn't even want to solder on a complete slug, never mind two halves.

Spent the day working on the new arrival cleaning it up, the second row of keys show abrasion along the top but it's not too noticeable to the eye,  it looks a lot worse in the photo.  The pink sticker covers the Ö key on the German keyboard layout.

The Ö type slug has been removed at some time in the past and replaced with a £ and $ one…

… or rather it looks like two half slugs, I'll be interested to see how well aligned they are once I get a new ribbon for it, the ribbon that it came with is completely dry and leaves no mark at all.

A couple of questions; did Olivetti ever make a combined £ $ slug and are these half slugs from Olivetti or elsewhere?

Looking good!

Always nice when these issues clear up by themselves although the deep clean and oiling probably helped.  Looks a good day's work.
