Hi Sky,

Is our Forum set up so a new member needs to have a few text-only postings before the photo-posting feature is automatically allowed ?  I thought that was mentioned in the past by Uwe.

Looks like this site finally shut down and now only the SGW auction site is available to typewriters.

Keystriker,

Torpedo got taken-over by Remington and in the later part of 1964, the German factory was shut down and Remington moved the Torpedo production to Holland.

Here is my 1964 Torpedo 18s made in the early part of 1964 and still made in Germany.  The back panels says " Remington - Rand Made In West Germany ".

But Remington had already began to make their changes to my Torpedo...i.e.  plastic ribbon cover, the "coffee cup" shaped key-tops that Remington was using, and the unique ribbon spools that Remington was so fond of.

Eventually Remington dropped the "Torpedo" name on the machines and more and more of the Torpedo mechanicals disappeared.

Eagle,

Lovely looking machine.  But we have heard the SGE-65 did not have a good reputation for long-term quality and reliability.

Mikey,

Stunning !

Don't be tempted by the Century running on SGW.

Initially it looks like the "L" key-top is missing.

But zooming in on a couple of photos shows the type-bar under the key-top is missing as well.

Hard to type a letter without an L...

Rob,

Back in the early 1970's, I worked for Intel Corp. in their very early years.  Each factory had a fully-equipped machine shop which only employed machinists that came either from Germany or Switzerland.

Those fellows where magicians in their craft.

Beak,

I told my wife a small air compressor in the garage would help me keep the tires on our vehicles properly inflated.

I hand-wash our vehicles and each time I check and top-off the tire pressure and check all fluids.

First time she saw me with a typewriter and the air compressor, she winked at me and said " tire pressure huh ? "

p.s.  And here in the States, canned-air makers are required to add a bittering agent into the compressed air...so young kids are not tempted to sniff the stuff in paper bags.  Leaves that bittering agent on the typewriter when it dries and onto your hands.

If you have a steel bodied typewriter without a paper support, here is an idea that only takes 2 magnets and some metal clothes hanger...

Typewriter spa-day completed on my workbench yesterday.

Only waiting for a new B&R ribbon delivery.

Items needed to be adjusted/fixed :

1.  Shift-lock was not engaging.  A bit of metal forming under the key-top fixed that.

2.  Touch-control lever had lost its small spring.  Easy to fix from my springs-horde.

3.  Left-side platen knob was loose and not engaging the platen free-spin feature.  Easy to fix with removing the platen and re-seating the "plunger" assembly of the left platen knob and re-installing the platen.

4.  Typewriter case had a cracked corner.  Super-glue fixed that.  Numerous tears/rips in the case covering glued and/or patch and touch-up satin-paint applied where needed.  Inside of the case just needed a cleaning.

5.  New metal ribbon spools added from my spools-horde.

Or it was a stolen typewriter and the crook did not want it traced back to the files of the Typewriter Police Department ... ???

I remember years ago when we kids got a new bicycle for a present, we would go down to our local PD and "register" our bike and get a decal with a reg. number to put on our bike.  That would only work if the bike had a serial number stamped in the metal by the bicycle maker (which many makers did not) and the Police decal could easily be removed with a mild solvent.
