Hey Uwe. Thanks. My dry spell seems to be over. I now have 4 machines to work on. Too much or happy accident. Who knows.

Nice story. It's cool when they have a history.

It's in a beautiful condition. I have yet to touch it in this picture.

Just picked up a 1948 Royal Arrow. A little dusty inside but the outside does not have a scratch! (a couple of marks that look like grease on back-hopefully will clean up) Working with a usable ribbon. Case in medium/good condition with a working latch.
Serial number: C1688172 which I believe is 1948. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
I overpaid on this one but I was overwhelmed with the idea of owning a machine that was this pristine. $60. was as low as the seller would go.

Thanks although it does sound a little complicated. But do need this information. I don't know how far I will have to go to clean this unit so it looks and functions fine. My first goal is to protect the areas which have stickers. Maybe removing the platen so that I can get to the paper tray will give me sufficient room. I don't know at this point.

The carriage is really easy to remove. If I Remember right, unwind he mainspring (Which has already been done), unhook the draw band. Unscrew the long margin bar in the front, with the scale. You will have a metal L on the right. That prevents the carriage from coming off. That comes off with the right screw. After this is done, use the carriage release buttons and slide the carriage to the right. When it stops, tilt it up from the front, continue moving right and it slides off.

Thanks Typewriterguy

Any complications when reinstalling that carriage TypewriterGuy?

I simply moved the carriage a few times today and I have already had a setback before I have even begun. I heard a snap and then the sound of the main spring uncoiling!  Now I will need to find a replacement carriage strap! I don't know how that will go! (If anyone has one please contact me!!!)
I think that now I will have to remove the top half of the machine in order to fix this issue. This is something that I previously did not want to do. But I plan on sticking to my original plan. Clean, polish and then repair. I will have many questions. Please bear with me. I am going be taking it slow.
