Oh no, that's terrible news! He should just start up a new blog with a different email address.

Thank you for the comments.

Uwe, I was just referring to the differences in models. Since it sounds like they're pretty much the same, I might try to get the older one. I find it a bit more appealing aesthetically. But if I can't get it, I'm sure I'd like the other just as much.

I am looking into getting a Hermes Rocket. Two of them are interesting to me, a 1959 and a 1964. I've been reading up on them, and they seem pretty similar. I was just wondering what all of you thought about the two models? Does one type better than the other? What about the aesthetics? Any recommendations for me?

Thank you!

Sorry it took so long to reply. Thanks for your input, everyone.

So it is pretty consistent, always happening in the same place and always skipping 3-4 spaces, although once it skipped like 10 spaces. I wasn't able to reproduce that.

Thanks for the help, everyone.

I cleaned up the platen again. The weird three side problem is now gone, and I am left with a single consistent problem.

When I type and get to the middle of the platen, the carriage will skip 3-4 places, and then return to normal.

Any suggestions? Thanks again!

So, the change seems to be more instant rather than gradual. Not sure what to make of it.

I've got another head-scratcher question for everybody.

I've got my Underwood Champion portable all put together, but there is an issue with the carriage advancement. Please note, this was an issue before I ever took any parts out.

So, the platen is a cylinder and doesn't have sides, per se, but let's pretend it has three sides on its curvature, each taking up an equal part of the cylinder: Sides A, B, and C.

When Side A is facing me, the carriage advances with no problem whatsoever. When Side B is facing me, the carriage will advance to exactly the halfway point and then stop. When Side C is facing me, the carriage will not advance at all. In fact, when Side C is facing me, if you manually push the carriage to the right and let go, it will forcefully slide all the way back to the left. It's like something isn't catching.

If I manually rotate the platen back from Side C to Side A, it will go back to working perfectly again.

Any ideas?

Thank you very much in advance for any ideas/input.

I got the problem fixed. I thought I'd update the thread in case anyone in the future ever has the same problem as me.

So, if you look at the close-up of the carriage, you'll see (in the bottom left) a part that looks like two hexagonal nuts with a groove in between them.

The mystery piece's hook fits into the groove. Hook it in, and then rotate the mystery piece down until the spring is resting over the small circular hole. Once it's in place, the platen goes over it.

That's it!

I agree with the others. Separate auctions would make you more successful.

Uwe,

I will get the images fixed after I get home from work. I am on mobile now, so I am limited at the moment.

If you would be able to post a photo or two of how it is supposed to look, I would be eternally grateful to you.

Thank you for you help.
