I admire the 'built to last for decades' manufacturing ethos - a lap-top that lasts three years is uncommon - specially the way I treat them.

My wife told me that she thought my typewriter was so old that it could only be a display piece. so old!!! It was made in the late seventies and should be going strong for many years to come.

I have a Corona 3 from 1920 I'm restoring. It only needs a new mainspring. It's gonna look almost new when i'm finished with it.

Now the convenience mentioned in the original post I can agree on. However, there's one thing to add. The feeling of the time period of when and where that machine was directly involved. To me I always think," So that is what the good ol' days feels like."  The decades I love the most is 1900s to the early 50s. I won't collect a typewiter any sooner than that. By the late 50s there isn't any old golden days vibe. It's early modern. This is all in my opinion.

I need a replacement mainspring. I have the drum. Or is it better to just get the drum off another machine?

Where did it break? Middle, or at an end? If it's near an end you should be able to repair it. I've repaired a few mainsprings using various methods.

I noticed that when it popped out of the drum, It was broken into numberous pieces so I threw some of it out. I have one piece of it left. Some of the pirces were small.

Have you examined the mainspring yet? They can break anywhere along their length, but if you're lucky it may have either broken at an end, or just come unhooked from the drum; either way, it's possible to repair it. Mainsprings that break in the middle are obviously more of a problem.

Yes it's completly broke it came out when I opend it up tooo. What can I do to replace it?

Well I'm fixing up a Corona 3 and the  drawstring was broken. I just thought I had to replace it and thats it. Well I came to conclutions that the drawstring was broke and so was the mainspring. I cant give it enoug tension before the spring gives way. I have the original drum and and stuff. How do I get a replacment mianspring? Or can i just buy a drum and mianspring somehwere that fits this typewriter?

Very nice! It's a very perfect looking machine. I  want to get the 3-bank version. I  have a 1920 Corona 3. I'm currently fixing the drawstring and unsticking the keys.
